Mislata (Spain) and Unione Reno Galliera sign a twinning pre-agreement: a step forward for sustainability and European citizenship

As part of the European project CLYMACT – Youth and Local Authorities for Climate Action, the cities of Mislata (Spain) and Unione Reno Galliera have signed a twinning pre-agreement.

The signing took place on Tuesday, 21 October 2025 at 11:00 AM, in the Council Hall of the Municipality of San Giorgio di Piano, in the presence of Carlos Fernández Bielsa, Mayor of Mislata, and local authorities from Unione Reno Galliera.

Signed during the official visit of the Spanish delegation for the Italian stage of CLYMACT, the agreement marks a concrete step towards a future stable cooperation between the two territories.

This initiative stems from the partnership between Mislata and Unione Reno Galliera within CLYMACT, a project funded by the European CERV programme – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values. The project brings together European youth (ages 18–30) and local governments to work on key environmental challenges: sustainable mobility, food and energy poverty, waste management, and climate change mitigation.

Following the first meeting held in Spain last June on the topic of sustainable mobility, the second stage of the project is now taking place in Italy (20–22 October 2025), with a focus on food poverty. The programme includes workshops, thematic working groups, and local site visits, all with the active involvement of youth delegations from across Europe.

The pre-agreement precedes formal approval by the respective municipal councils and includes the establishment of twinning committees tasked with coordinating future joint activities.

This agreement formalises the intention of both local authorities to strengthen mutual ties through cultural, educational, and youth exchanges; joint projects for sustainable development; and the sharing of good governance practices. It is the first concrete (and far from obvious) result of the collaborative journey initiated by CLYMACT — a clear signal of the shared European commitment to building effective, long-term partnerships on common challenges.

“This pre-agreement marks an important step for Unione Reno Galliera: not just a formal commitment, but the confirmation of a shared vision with Mislata based on sustainability, participation, and a strong European identity,” said Stefano Zanni, President of Unione Reno Galliera.
“Through CLYMACT, we are building a meaningful dialogue between youth and local governments — a dialogue that transforms the values of European cooperation into real action. It’s a signal of openness, mutual trust, and a willingness to invest in the new generations, who are at the heart of this project and the driving force of a more sustainable and inclusive future.”
