From 19 to 22 October, the Unione Reno Galliera will be in Podstrana, Croatia, for the sixth and final in-person international meeting of the European project CLYMACT, which promotes cooperation between young people and local authorities to address environmental and climate challenges.
The delegation will consist of ten participants, including two mayors, two technical staff members from the Unione Reno Galliera and six young Ambassadors. They will take part in activities hosted by the Municipality of Podstrana (Split), alongside partners from Spain, Greece, Croatia and Hungary.
The meeting will focus on waste management and prevention, environmental awareness and youth engagement. Through presentations, workshops and discussions between participating territories, the partners will share experiences and good practices, with the aim of turning young people's ideas into concrete proposals for local policies. The programme will also include a field visit focusing on the consequences of the major wildfire that affected the area in August 2026 and the environmentally sustainable management of Podstrana's coastline.
The meeting in Croatia marks the sixth and final in-person international event in a journey that, since June 2025, has taken participants across five European countries, bringing together young people, local authorities and communities.
So, what does the future hold?
The conclusion of the in-person meetings does not mark the end of the journey. The challenge now is to put what has been learned into practice back home, build on the proposals developed and strengthen cooperation between young people and local authorities.
The experiences gained through CLYMACT can thus become a starting point for new forms of participation and concrete actions to promote sustainability in our local communities.
